Tuesday, January 11, 2011 Dear Colleague: I would like to take this opportunity to introduce you to Project Citizen, a curricular program in civic education for upper elementary, middle grade students, high school and after school programs. Project Citizen promotes competent and responsible participation in local, state, and federal government. It enables young people to monitor and influence public policy. The curriculum involves an entire class of students or group members in a series of structured, cooperative learning activities guided by teachers, organization leaders, and adult volunteers. These activities meet state standards and are authorized under No Child Left Behind. We will be presenting a free one day workshop on Project Citizen on January 14th 2011 At the Blue Lake Casino Hotel. Substitutes will be paid for (or a stipend of $75 for those not needing a sub) and a light breakfast and lunch will be provided. In addition, each school will receive a classroom set of the Project Citizen textbooks along with on-going support. Join the only conference of its kind focusing specifically on middle school after school programs! The San Diego County Office of Education (SDCOE) Region 9 Technical Assistance Center (RTAC) and California Afterschool Network welcome you to attend the first annual Amp Up! Middle School After School Conference! The conference will feature engaging workshops, keynote presentations, youth performances, and networking opportunities. Program staff, directors, middle school site administrators, and technical assistance providers are encouraged to attend.

Promising Practices in Afterschool (PPAS) identifies and shares practices, such as an overview of the "7 components of afterschool", in afterschool programs while also providing information of interest to afterschool program directors and staff.
Partnership for After School Education (PASE) is the largest network of afterschool programs in the country, and its organizational objectives are to build the capacity of afterschool programs and promote high standards in the field of youth development.
Assist the afterschool field through its research, education and training, consultation, and field-building.
Represents the voice of the afterschool field in the areas of professional development, program quality, public policy and current issues affecting children and youth in their out of school time.

Grounded in practice (fourteen years operating pre-K-12th grade programs), the Center provides publications, professional development, and technical assistance for building high quality programs and effective aftershool educators.
The Center for Collaborative Solutions provides leadership in afterschool policy and practice. Its publications and guides offer afterschool programs valuable tools in starting-up and improving the quality of their programs. Through its Healthy Behaviors Initiative, CCS has published a guide to Developing Exemplary Practices in Nutrition, Physical Activity and Food Security in Afterschool Programs and supports Healthy Behaviors Learning Centers across the state to help other afterschool programs. CCS consultants also provide training, coaching and mentoring.
