Tuesday, January 11, 2011 Dear Colleague: I would like to take this opportunity to introduce you to Project Citizen, a curricular program in civic education for upper elementary, middle grade students, high school and after school programs. Project Citizen promotes competent and responsible participation in local, state, and federal government. It enables young people to monitor and influence public policy. The curriculum involves an entire class of students or group members in a series of structured, cooperative learning activities guided by teachers, organization leaders, and adult volunteers. These activities meet state standards and are authorized under No Child Left Behind. We will be presenting a free one day workshop on Project Citizen on January 14th 2011 At the Blue Lake Casino Hotel. Substitutes will be paid for (or a stipend of $75 for those not needing a sub) and a light breakfast and lunch will be provided. In addition, each school will receive a classroom set of the Project Citizen textbooks along with on-going support. We have a limited amount of spaces available for this training so register now by emailing me with your name, school, phone number and email. If you have any other questions feel free to either email me or give me a call. Sincerely, Brian Lovell Arcata School District Congressional District CA1 Co-Coordinator blovell@humboldt.k12.ca.us 707-826-1915
