Salsa Competition 2011

On Saturday Oct. 8th the afterschool NorthCoast Youth Culinary AllStars had their 2nd Annual Salsa Competition in Arcata, California. The program’s inspiration comes from Humboldt County Schools Nutrition Education Coordinator Linda Prescott and Nutrition Educator Megan Russin of the Harvest of the Month Program. “We wanted to highlight the importance of fresh, local fruits and vegetables and connect youth to the community through an event that showcases the youth’s budding culinary skills and knowledge.”
Each salsa recipe featured local produce. Youth from eight local After School programs from Trinidad to Carlotta have partnered over the past several weeks with some of the finest chefs of Humboldt County to create the most unique, flavorful, mouth-watering salsa!
