The purpose of this program is to provide materials and educational experiences to engage students in critical thinking and problem solving that deepen their knowledge of standards-based subject matter. Project activities should also improve students' habits of inquiry, self-directed learning, and critical reflection.
Program funds may be used for resource materials, supplies, equipment, transportation, software, or scholars-in-residence. A small portion of awarded funds may also be used to support the professional development necessary to implement the project, although the majority of the grant must be spent on activities that benefit students.
This program is funded by The NEA Foundation and the Staples Recycle for Education program. The Student Achievement Grants replace the foundation's Innovation Grants, which have been discontinued.
